Ontario Peak via Falling Rock Canyon - Angeles National Forest - San Gabriel Mountains - Cucamonga Wilderness | TRVRS Apparel
[PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU'D LIKE TO JOIN US. THERE IS A SKILL LEVEL/GEAR REQUIREMENT IN PLACE FOR THIS OUTING.]

If you are looking for cascading streams through a shaded canopy of flourishing vegetation within a short drive from the city, the Ice House Canyon trail offers more bang for your buck than almost anywhere in the entire Angeles National Forest. Beyond the short nature walk through the trees is a
Peak Bagger's paradise with some of the tallest mountains the San Gabriel range has to offer. Although most well known routes to these peaks are steep and tedious, none of them offer the seclusion or adventure brought on by Falling Rock canyon.

This class 2 gully extends from the south side of the canyon all the way up to the heights of the Ontario Peak trail. The route we will take leaves the gully at about 6,300 feet elevation, opting for the ridge line that parallels to its west. The route ascends nearly 1,000 feet in 1/2 a mile passing two tiers of mostly dry falls, loose boulders, talus, and a massive scree field. These physical difficulties only slightly overshadow the demand for a strong navigational prowess and route finding skills as falling off course can easily put you in a bad situation. Join us on May 5th, as we climb up to Ontario peak via Falling Rock canyon. BRING A BEER!

What should I bring?

Required Gear (we will turn you back at the trail head if you do not have these items):
  • Helmet
  • Emergency Kit
  • Extra food
  • Extra water
Recommended Gear:
  • Trekking pole or Ice axe (for stability in the snow)
  • Waterproof hiking boots (to keep your toes from freezing off)
  • Down Jacket

AND of course, bring a beer to share at the peak. Its part of our culture to bring a beer to the summit to celebrate the accomplishment of climbing a mountain. DO NOT bring more than one unless you plan on sharing. We do not intend to climb down a exposed technical route while inebriated. Just really happy.

SEE YOU OUT THERE!
